Pocket Power was a Nintendo magazine created for the release of the 1989 film “The Wizard”. The Wizard starring Fred Savage was a movie that heavily revolved around video games, in particular Nintendo products. The movie follows a boy and his brother who run away from home and hitchhike cross country with the help of a girl they meet along the way to compete in the ultimate video game championship, Video Armageddon for a grand prize of $50,000.

Howard Phillips

Howard Phillips

Howard Phillips is an American video game consultant best known as a spokesman for Nintendo of America in the 1980s. Phillips entered the video game business when Nintendo expanded into America. Phillips joined the small team of Nintendo of America in 1981 as their warehouse manager in charge of shipping and receiving of their arcade machines.

Gail Tilden

Gail Tilden is a former advertising manager at Nintendo of America and was the founder of Nintendo Power. She started her career with Nintendo in July 1983 and by September 1983 was appointed as the Advertising Manager of Nintendo of America. Tilden was responsible for managing all marketing communications and branding efforts for the launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
