Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is an action-adventure stealth video game developed by Silicon Knights in conjunction with Konami as an exclusive for the Nintendo GameCube. Published by Konami, Twin Snakes is a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid which released exclusively for the PlayStation in 1998. The game features graphical improvements, new cutscenes written and directed by Japanese filmmaker Ryuhei Kitamura and gameplay functions originally introduced in the sequel Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
The remake uses the same story and dialogues as the original 1998 PlayStation release however all voice acting was re-recorded due to audio quality issues of the original recordings. The improved audio capability of the GameCube picked up outside noise from the original recordings that were inaudible on the PlayStation. The new recordings were made using almost all the original English voice actors at the request of David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake. Hayter persuaded Konami to have the original voice cast reprise their role and only minor changes were made to the original performances.
Nintendo officially announced that the remake of the original Metal Gear Solid was in development for the GameCube on May 1, 2003 and that development was being led by Silicon Knights as the Konami team was busy developing Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Denis Dyack, president of Silicon Knight was appointed director of the game with Hideo Kojima and Shigeru Miyamoto overseeing development. A playable demo of the game was available at E3 2003 which revealed that the game would feature the same style of gameplay as Metal Gear Solid 2 such as first-person aiming and being able to move bodies around.

During E3 2003 Nintendo announced that Twin Snakes was slated to be released in late 2003 in both North America and Europe while the Japanese versions would not be released until early 2004. Further details on the game were made available at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2003 and it was revealed that the development team required additional time in order to complete development. The game was pushed out to Q1 2004 and ended up releasing first in North America on March 9, 2004 followed by the Japanese version releasing on March 11, 2004 then finally on March 26, 2004 throughout Europe.
Japan received an exclusive Premium Package when the game released. The Premium Package included the game, a platinum coloured GameCube with the Foxhound logo, a 44-page book titled “Memorandum” containing production notes, sketches and photos along with an additional disc containing an emulated version of the Nintendo Entertainment System version of the original Metal Gear. Much like the original Metal Gear Solid the game was met with positive reception however despite positive reviews the game failed to meet sales expectations.
