Shigeru Miyamoto is an iconic Japanese video game designer, director and producer at Nintendo. He is the creator of some of the most acclaimed and best-selling game franchises, such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero, and Donkey Kong. Miyamoto has been considered one of the most innovative, admired, prolific, influential and acclaimed video game developers of all time.

Miyamoto joined Nintendo in 1977, when it was moving into video games away from the Japanese playing cards it had made since 1889. His games have been flagships of every Nintendo video game console, with his earliest work appearing on arcade machines in the late 1970s. He managed Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis & Development software division, which developed many of the company’s first-party titles. Shigeru Miyamoto has created some of the industry’s most lucrative franchises and is credited in a variety of titles that have been highly praised by virtually all critics. His contributions to video game development is unparalleled when it comes to having a profound impact and enduring legacy.

He has been described by fans and gamers in general across the board as the “Stan Lee” and “Walt Disney” of video-games.  Miyamoto’s involvement in game development started to slow down in 2015 after the announcement of Super Nintendo World, a partnership with Universal Studios to create multiple theme parks.  Nintendo placed Miyamoto in charge of concept, design and supervisor of construction of the theme park.  By 2017 all of this direct involvement in game development was transferred to other senior resources within Nintendo.   Miyamoto was heavily involved in the design and construction of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka which began construction in June 2017 and had its grand opening on March 18, 2021.
