Kōji Kondō is a Japanese music composer, pianist, and sound director at Nintendo. Kondō is one of the most famous and accomplished video game music composers in the history of the industry. Best known for composing some of the most well-known music from the Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda series.

Kondō was hired by Nintendo in 1984, becoming the first person hired by them to specialize in musical composition for video games. Shortly after, Kondō was assigned as the sound designer on the 1985 game Super Mario Bros. His sound design for the game, especially the overworld theme, has often been cited as among the most memorable in video game history. His work is the most recognized among all of Nintendo’s composers, largely due to the fact that he has been with the company since its Nintendo Entertainment System years and has supervised the music for most of their biggest titles.

When new sound design employees started joining Nintendo EAD, Kondō took on the role of Group Manager of the Sound Department. In this position Kondō supervises and organizes all of the music composers and sound designers of EAD, as well as sound support and supervision for other titles on the Mario, Zelda and Star Fox franchises developed by external companies.
